Week 5: 4D flow MR imaging

We planned to do the UW 4D flow MR imaging. First, we needed the correct sequence, the one is developed  by UW researchers. We could get the right sequence an install it on both MR machines. Yesterday we did our first imaging. it took long time to setup the machine to use the UW 4D flow sequence. Also we tried new pad for pulse reading which patient lay on and the gel penetrate the closing and it's much more convenient that the pads, both for technologists and the patients. But after using it we got 40 ppm, which is low then we switched to the finger Pulse Oximeter. The nurse also measured it manually. Surprisingly, the true heart rate was about 40 ppm and in the middle of test he rest and it was about 35.

Other than routine shadowing Dr. Prince reading and dictating abdomen MR. I could shadow one open heart surgery, (Sadly just the conclusion, but thanks to my peer who arrange it for me). Another valuable experience I had was the chance to shadow my clinical mentor discussing the recurrence of cancer with patient starting to see if she has the info and try to talk to her and how to write the report .
